As of 2025, the total number of universities in Turkey is 208. Of these universities, 131 are state universities, 78 are foundation universities, and 5 are foundation vocational schools. These universities conduct academic research at both national and international levels and offer education in various disciplines. Thanks to their inclusion in the Bologna Process, universities in Turkey provide education within a system compatible with the European Higher Education Area.
Faculty
It is a higher education institution providing advanced education, conducting scientific research and publications, and programs can be added to its structure. Students graduate with a bachelor's degree at the end of the education period that lasts at least four years.
Conservatory
It is a higher education institution training artists for music or performing arts and it lasts at least four years.
Institute
It is a higher education institution that accomplish scientific research by providing postgraduate education established under universities and faculties. Institutes provides master and doctorate degrees.
Vocational School
It is a higher education institution that provides applied education for any profession and includes two-year education.
Four-Year College
It is an applied form of higher education institution educating high-level students for a profession. It is often confused with a two-year vocational school. In these programs, an education lasting at least eight semesters is presented.
Research and Application Center
It was founded to support education and training in universities. It is a higher education institution where research is done to meet the application needs of different fields or for the preparation and support activities of some professions.
