Istanbul Bilgi University, embracing the principle "Non scholae, sed vitae discimus" (We must learn for life, not for school), was established on June 7, 1996, by the Turkish Grand National Assembly under Law No. 4142, upon the application of the Bilgi Education and Culture Foundation. As a foundation university, Bilgi University operates as a legal entity within the Turkish university system.
Since its establishment, Istanbul Bilgi University has incorporated three different campuses: Kuştepe, Dolapdere, and santralistanbul. These campuses cover a total area of approximately 210,000 square meters. The university aims to provide students with a wide and modern educational environment while significantly contributing to the academic life in Turkey.
Over the course of 23 years since its founding, Istanbul Bilgi University has achieved many firsts in Turkey. Between 2006 and 2019, the university aimed to enhance the quality of education and research, aspiring to become a university that can compete internationally. To this end, it established a long-term collaboration with Laureate Education, one of the world's largest international education networks, becoming a part of this network. In 2019, Can Holding joined the supporters of the Bilgi Culture and Education Foundation. These collaborations and supports have significantly contributed to the academic and institutional development of Istanbul Bilgi University.
Today, Istanbul Bilgi University has more than 20,000 students and over 60,000 alumni. It employs more than 1,000 academic staff. BILGI houses 8 faculties, 3 institutes, and 3 vocational schools, offering over 150 programs at the undergraduate, graduate, and associate degree levels. With this wide range of programs, the university provides educational opportunities in various fields, supporting the academic development of its students.
