Defense Industry Artificial Intelligence Summit
YÖK (Council of Higher Education) President Erol Özvar addressed the Defense Industry Artificial Intelligence Summit 2024, organized by the Presidency of Defense Industries at the HAVELSAN Technology Campus.
Expressing his satisfaction with Turkey's achievements and future projections in the field of artificial intelligence in higher education, Özvar said, 'According to the Stanford University Artificial Intelligence Index Report 2024, Turkey ranks third in Europe in terms of the number of undergraduate graduates in computer science, computer engineering, and information technology, following the UK and Germany.'
'We are by far the first in the number of doctoral graduates'
Stating that Turkey ranks second in Europe with an 118% increase in the number of undergraduate graduates over the last 10 years, and ranks 6th in terms of the number of master's graduates and 5th in doctoral graduates in these fields, Özvar said, 'In terms of the rate of increase in the number of doctoral graduates over the last 10 years, Turkey is by far the first in Europe.'
Emphasizing his satisfaction with the capacity they have reached in the field of artificial intelligence in higher education and its future projections, Özvar stated that they aim to develop this capacity both quantitatively and qualitatively, and to use it to contribute to the country's economic and strategic development.
Özvar announced that they have launched the Artificial Intelligence Academic Thesis Program (ATP) as the final link in the cooperation between the Council of Higher Education and the Presidency of Defense Industries. Özvar stated that with this program, artificial intelligence in the defense industry will be addressed as a graduation project at the undergraduate level and a thesis study at the graduate level in universities.
