Ağrı İbrahim Çeçen University was established in the academic year 1967-1968 as Ağrı Girls' Primary Teacher School under the Ministry of National Education, and transformed into a two-year Teacher Training Institute starting from the academic year 1977-1978 to continue its function of educating teachers. The aim was to contribute individuals with developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills, adequate professional competence, and awareness of environmental and social responsibilities to the country.
The main faculties include: Faculty of Education, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Islamic Sciences, Faculty of Sports Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences, Patnos Sultan Alparslan Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, and Doğubayazıt Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
