Bartın University was established on May 22, 2008, with its roots dating back to 1990. The Bartın Faculty of Forestry, which was established under Zonguldak Karaelmas University, was the first faculty established in Bartın. Located in the Ağdacı Campus, Bartın Faculty of Forestry welcomed its first students in the 1993-1994 academic year. With the start of education at the Bartın Faculty of Forestry, three more academic units were added to higher education in Bartın: Bartın Vocational School, School of Health Services, and School of Physical Education and Sports.
In addition to the four academic departments separated from Zonguldak Karaelmas University, Bartın University began its educational life with newly established departments such as the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Institute of Social Sciences, and Institute of Natural Sciences, along with its first students. It consists of a total of 3 faculties, 2 institutes, 2 vocational schools, and one school. Bartın University, which has made both scientific and physical development in a short time, continued to increase its number of faculties.
In 2010, the Faculty of Education and Faculty of Arts were established, followed by the Faculty of Science in 2011, the Institute of Educational Sciences and the Faculty of Islamic Sciences in 2012, Ulus Vocational School in 2017, the School of Foreign Languages and the Faculty of Health Sciences in 2018, and the Faculty of Sports Sciences in 2019. On June 15, 2020, the institutes were brought together under a single roof and renamed the Institute of Graduate Education. With 9 faculties, 3 vocational schools, 1 school, and 1 institute, Bartın University serves over 18,000 students. Bartın University, which places importance on equipped education and scientific infrastructure, is among the prestigious universities with its 12-year history.
