Our founding foundation, the Turkish Maritime Education Foundation (TUDEV), was established to address the need for seafarers in Turkey and to support existing maritime education institutions by providing the necessary financial assistance. The foundation aims to launch an educational institution dedicated to training seafarers. To this end, it has provided substantial support to Maritime Faculties and other maritime training institutions. In March 1995, our founding foundation established its own education center, the TUDEV Maritime Education Center, where 2100 officers have been trained to date.
Following an extraordinary general assembly meeting on December 4, 2003, TUDEV decided that the Maritime Education Center should continue to operate at the higher education level as the "Turkish Maritime University." Efforts toward this goal commenced, and after significant work, the institution gained legal status with the publication of a law in the Official Gazette on February 8, 2008. Consequently, the Republic of Turkey Piri Reis University was established, contributing to Turkish and global maritime education.
