Kastamonu University aims to establish itself as a distinguished institution both nationally and internationally. It was founded on March 1, 2006, by Law No. 5467. Despite being relatively new, the university has proven itself as a "Developing Young University" through advancements in various fields including scientific, social, cultural, physical, and sports.
The university comprises three campuses: the Main Campus, the "Kuzeykent Campus" spanning 237 hectares located at the 3rd km of the Daday Road, and the "Faculty of Medicine Campus."
Within the university, there is an increasing number of esteemed academic and administrative staff. It houses 15 faculties, 3 institutes, 2 schools, 13 vocational schools, and 24 research and application centers, along with 17 coordinatorships, a MERLAB (Central Research Laboratory) accredited by TÜRKAK, and a Technology Transfer Office. Additionally, the campus includes 8 conference halls, a total of 5 indoor sports halls, a multi-purpose sports complex, 4 fitness centers, a UEFA-compliant football field and athletics track, outdoor sports areas, central and student laboratories, 3 social facilities, and Yücebıyıklar Mansion and Cide Guest House.
To meet the accommodation needs of students, there are dormitories affiliated with the Credit and Dormitories Institution (KYK), providing a capacity for 2928 male and 4462 female students. Besides KYK dormitories, there are numerous private student dormitories with varying facilities, especially in the city center and near the Kuzeykent Campus.
Kastamonu University offers English preparatory education and compulsory Arabic preparatory education at the Faculty of Theology. The English Preparatory Program provided by the School of Foreign Languages is optional. Additionally, Turkish language education is provided at the Turkish Teaching Application and Research Center (TÖMER) for foreign students.
