The foundations of Boğaziçi University were laid with the establishment of Robert College in Istanbul, the first American college outside the United States, by Dr. Cyrus Hamlin, an educator, inventor, technician, and architect, and Mr. Christopher Rheinlander Robert, a philanthropist and wealthy merchant from New York, in 1863. Our institutional values aim to foster individuals who embrace creativity and critical thinking, prioritize freedom and liberty, value ethical principles, possess a strong awareness of nature and the environment, and fulfill their social and professional responsibilities successfully. We strive to contribute to humanity by producing science and technology and offering them in service to society, as well as by promoting and pioneering the presence and dissemination of science, art, and culture within the community.
