The foundation of Balıkesir University is based on the establishment of Karesi Muallim Mektebi in 1910. Necatibey Teacher Training School continued to train teachers under the name Necatibey Education Institute from 1932 to 1982. In 1981, it transitioned from a three-year role to a four-year "Higher Teacher Training School" role, and in 1982, it became affiliated with Uludağ University and was named Necatibey Faculty of Education. In 1982, other higher education institutions in Balıkesir, such as Balıkesir School of Business and Tourism and Balıkesir School of Tourism Management and Hotel Management, as well as Balıkesir State Academy of Engineering and Architecture, were affiliated with Uludağ University as Balıkesir Faculty of Engineering. These institutions, which remained under Uludağ University for 10 years, formed a strong infrastructure for Balıkesir University through determined and clear development. Balıkesir University was established on July 11, 1992, and gained its legal status on January 1, 1993. Our university has 4 Institutes, 14 Faculties, 2 Vocational Schools, 12 Vocational Schools, and 27 Research and Application Centers.
